Everton keen on Wolves’ Republic of Ireland duo

Updated: August 23, 2012

Everton boss David Moyes was at Molineux on Tuesday night to watch Irish pair Kevin Doyle and Stephen Ward as Wolves ran out 3-1 winners over Barnsley.

Moyes is keen to add to his attacking options and has cash available after the sale of Jack Rodwell to Manchester City for £15m, but will have to fight off interest in the Waterford man from old club Reading and other top-flight clubs.

The Everton boss was rebuffed when he enquired about Doyle’s availability last January but Wolves are more open to offers following relegation and the player is keen to return to the Premier League as soon as possible with his international career in mind.

Ward is top of Everton’s list should Manchester United tempt Leighton Baines to Old Trafford before the transfer window shuts.

Stephen Hunt may be another Irish man to leave Molineux this summer after being left out of squad for Tuesday’s match.
