Bray’s Royal Hotel and Leisure Centre will have the opportunity of hosting three times World 60kg Champion Katie Taylor’s next fight when she gloves up against Spanish titleholder Jennifer Miranda Maqueda on 22nd April (Good Friday).
The 24 years old Spaniard lost in the quarter finals 6-4 against the English no 1, Natasha Jonas at the recent controversial Strandja Cup tournament in Bulgaria. Jonas herself lost to Taylor in the semi-final 3-6. Going on recent form one would expect a reasonably comfortable win for Taylor ,who over the next
few months defends her European Union title in Katowice, and later her European Championship in Rotterdam. Taylor has defeated Miranda once before.
After their recent bout in Bulgaria ,talking about Taylor , Natasha Jonas told the “Liverpool Post” : ““I’ve never come across a female who punches as quick as her,” said Jonas, 26.
“Her hand speed is phenomenal. I thought she’d be a lot more powerful than she was but it was her hand speed that caught me out at first.
“She was a lot further ahead of everyone for years. I think people have started to catch up now.”
Team Taylor hopes to arrange two additional bouts in Ireland before Katie heads for Katowice in May.
