Irish man,Mark Allen fought back from 9-6 down to defeat Matthew Stevens 10-9 in his opening match of this years World Snooker Championships at the Crucible in Sheffield.
Allen had been behind 5-4 overnight, Stevens took the first frame of the final session and the dup then shared the next four frames. Ulster man, Allen, who admitted he had been receiving treatment for depression ahead of the World Championship, went 9-6 behind before taking the next four frames to win the match.
He showed excellent composure when the series was tied at nine frames each and this resolve will undoubtedly stand him in good steed as the tournament progresses. Allen has reached the semi-finals at the Crucible in recent seasons and is a genuine title contender if he continues to show the form of last night’s victory. He will now face Barry Hawkins in the last 16.
