Sligo’s star forward David Kelly, will miss his county’s Connacht Senior Football Championship quarter-final tie with Leitrim on Sunday week.
Kelly injured his ankle playing for DCU in the Sigerson Cup and required surgery as a result. He missed the county’s Allianz Football League campaign and has not yet returned to action. Management have decided not to risk their star man in the opening round and are hoping that the player will be available later in the season.
After a poor league campaign that say Sligo relegated to Division 3, boss Kevin Walsh will be looking for a much improved performance against Leitrim:
“Leitrim is going to be a really tough game for us. Looking at their league form they pushed Roscommon and Longford very close, so they will be a right challenge for us at Markievicz Park. They always have great heart and great desire and they are going to push us all the way. We are well aware of that.”
