Dublin football boss Pat Gilroy has axed a number of players from his squad, ahead of their Leinster Senior Football Championship campaign which starts next weekend.
Paddy Andrews and Pat Burke are two of the highest profile omissions from the Blues squad. The Dubs are preparing for a quarter-final match against the winners of Laois and Longford.
Alan Hubbard, Darren Daly and Dean Kelly have also been axed from the current set-up. Daly, Kelly and Burke all featured for Dublin in their recent National League final collapse against Cork. Gilroy admitted his bench disappointed him during that encounter with the Rebels:
“We didn’t finish with a very strong team in comparison to them today. We learned a lot about our resources. There were guys that played and guys that came on that were maybe a little shy of this level.”
Dublin’s squad will play a challenge match at London Irish’s rugby grounds this Saturday against local club, Parnell’s. According to reports,it is believed that the management may have dropped up to 15 players from the original panel which had been training all winter.
