Laois play host to Antrim in O’Moore Park on Saturday evening,in the preliminary round of the 2011 Leinster Senior Hurling Championship.

In truth, neither of these sides can have any real pretensions of winning the provincial title,so the match this weekend will have been a major target for both of them for the last few months. On paper at least, there is very little between the two sides. Both played their hurling in Division Two during the league just ended and each finished up in the top half of the table, on eight points each. When the two sides met in Portlaoise in round 3 of the competition, the home side had a narrow 0-20 to 0-16 victory.

There is unlikely to be very much between the two counties once again this weekend. Laois are able to name a full strength side, with Brian Campion and Ger Reddin shaking off recent injuries. Willie Hyland has also been named in the starting fifteen, despite having important exams midweek. Antrim have named four newcomers in their side for the game.

In what is a difficult match to predict, home advantage may just be enough to see Laois over the finishing line in front and they are given a hesitant vote to progress to the next stage of the competition.
