Armagh will have to plan without Ronan Clarke for this year’s championship campaign after the player decided to have surgery on his long-standing Achilles problem.

The former All-Star full forward has been struggling with the injury for the last two years and will go under the knife after suffering a break down during his latest comeback

Speaking at the opening of the newly named Morgan Athletic grounds, Armagh manager Paddy O’Rourke said “He had dedicated himself to becoming fully fit but instead he must now face the strong possibility of surgery, He will not play any championship football this year.”

Another man set to miss out is Gareth Swift who had been in contention to start again Down before he broke his collarbone in the challenge match with Kildare last week.
