Down centre forward Marty Clarke looks set to return to Australia later in the season, to give the Rules game a second shot.
Today’s Irish Examiner is reporting that the 23-year-old will rejoin his form club,Collingwood. Clarke initially joined the Blues in 2006 but in 2009 he turned down a lucrative contract and decided to return home to resume his inter-county career with the Mourne men. Last year he led the side to the All Ireland Football Final and was one of their better players on the day.
Clarke will continue to play for Down in this season’s qualifiers, before heading to Australia in November. The player is believed to be negotiating a contract for the 2012 and 2013. Collingwood, who are based in Melbourne are the current Premiership champions are and are one of the biggest clubs in the game.
