Louth footballers championship campaign looks to have received a massive boost, with reports in the county over the weekend claiming that John O’Brien and Mick Fanning had returned to Ireland. The duo were key members of last season’s panel but emigrated early in the new year.
While the pair headed to Australia initially, later reports suggested that they had moved to Boston. County officials must now find out if they are eligible for the senior footballers this year, having reportedly played football while they were abroad.
Star midfielder Brian White also emigrated from Louth during the winter but it is not yet clear if he plans to return home at any time soon. Nonetheless, the return of O’Brien and Fanning if confirmed, will be a huge boost to the Wee County as they prepare to face Carlow on Sunday week.
