Irish Under-20 boss Mike Ruddock could be without one of his most experienced players when the country open their U-20 Junior World Championship campaign against England in Italy on Friday. Jordi Murphy is currently a major doubt for the game and looks like he may not make the starting fifteen.

The Lansdowne flanker played in last year’s championship in Argentina, but is struggling with an ankle injury and is unlikely to start against the U-20 Grand Slam winners in Treviso.

Ruddock said that Murphy is the sides only serious injury worry at present:

“Jordi suffered an ankle strain in a warm-up match against Leinster and he has not been able to train since. But he is doing his rehab and if he recovers in the next day or two, we will drop him in and he will be in contention”.
