This Saturday evening Derek Jeter could become only the 28th baseball player to hit the 3,000 hit mark when the New York Yankee’s take on the Cleveland Indian.
Barring an injury or loss of form, Jeter should join an exclusive club that is led by Peter Rose.
Jeter, who will turn 37 this month, made his first hit in May 1995 off a Tim Belcher ball and now 16 years later is on 2991.
The Yankee legend has found some form of late after a slow start to the season that saw him hitting a meagre .219, well below his career average of .313.
Should he break the 3000 mark he will only need another 61 to overtake Craig Biggio and move into the top 20.
However Jeter still has some way to go before he can take the number one spot from Rose who hit a remarkable 4256 hits in a 23 year career with the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies and Montreal Expos.
