Ireland finish 10th in European Team C’ships

Ireland has finished 10th overall in the European Team Championships 1st League in Turkey.

Fionnuala Britton produced the performance of the weekend to finish 2nd in the women’s 5000 metres final to lead Ireland to 224.5 points, just ahead of Slovakia and Croatia who were relegated.

Derval O’Rourke claimed fourth place in her first outdoor 100m hurdles of the year while Cork runner Amy Foster set a new personal best of 23.58 coming hone sixth in the 200m, while in the men’s event Galway’s’ Paul Hession ran a season’s best of 20.65 for fifth place.

Joanne Cuddihy marked her return to fitness by helping the women’s 4x400m team that to a second finish while the men’s foursome of Brian Murphy, Brian Gregan, Tim Crowe and Nick Hogan finished fifth in their final.

Donegal’s Darren McBrearty finished 9th in the 800m, with Rory Chesser fifth in the 1500m while Ciara Mageean, making her European Team Championships debut, finished an impressive fourth in the women’s 1500m

David Flynn finished eighth in the 3000m steeplechase while Ciaran O Lionaird secured seventh spot in the 3000m.
