In other news concerning Laois Hurling, former Laois county player Tommy Fitzgerald has hit out at ex hurling boss Brendan Fennelly, in the aftermath of Saturday’s 34-point defeat by Cork in the All-Ireland Qualifiers.
Fitzgerald, opted out of the panel in March, and said today that he took issue with Fennelly’s comments in an RTÉ interview in which he questioned the players commitment.
“When I left (in March), I wasn’t going well. I wasn’t happy at the time and it was the final nail in the coffin (to be dropped),” Fitzgerald said in an interview with the Irish Examiner.
“I was left pulling my hair out. There are a few lads on that panel and you wouldn’t get more committed but they’re completely disillusioned. I would have stayed on and been confident of getting my place back if the setup was half decent or even half as good as last year. If you had Niall Rigney or anyone else there I wouldn’t have walked away.”
