Ladbrokes Greyhound Derby 2011 launched

At the launch of the 2011 Ladbrokes.com Irish Greyhound Derby Galway bred brothers, Tyrur Big Mike and Tyrur McGuigan, who claimed 1st and 2nd place in the 2010 event, were joined by another pair of famous Galway brothers, Joe and Ollie Canning.

The final of the Ladbrokes.com Irish Greyhound Derby on Saturday September 10th will be broadcast live on RTE 2 from 9.00pm- 10.00pm with the winner receiving €120,000. Every heat from the first round on August 4th through to the Quarter Finals will be broadcast live to all Ladbrokes shops in the UK to promote Irish Greyhound racing.

The Irish Greyhound Derby has been running since 1928, receiving classic status in 1932, with race sponsors Ladbrokes.com coming onboard in 2010 in a three year deal partnering with one of the most prestigious and popular races of the Greyhound racing calendar.

Ladbrokes have a long standing history of supporting Irish Greyhound racing and Shelbourne Park with their sponsorship of the Ladbrokes 600.

The event offers a massive prize fund of €225,000 and is run over a distance of 550yds at Shelbourne Park with qualifying rounds beginning on 3rd August. The winner receives €120,000, the runner-up will receive €30,000; third €15,000 and three unplaced finalists €7,500 each.

First round: Wednesday 3rd, Thursday 4th & Saturday 6th August
Second round: Thursday 11th & Saturday 13th August
Third round: Saturday 20th August
Quarter- Finals: Saturday 27th August
Semi- Finals: Saturday 3rd September
