The GAA are to announce a new All-Star awards scheme next month. The new format will be a combination of the existing All-Star and GPA Team of the Year awards.

Opel have been confirmed as the awards sponsor. The scheme will be a joint venture between the GAA and the GPA. It will see players select the Footballer and Hurler of the Year, while members of the press will continue to choose the All-Star teams.

GPA spokesman Sean Potts told the Irish Sun: “It was always envisaged the two schemes would come under the one sponsorship umbrella and was part of the agreement between the GPA and the GAA. The finer details are still being thrashed out.”
