Sligo Rovers’ hopes of hosting the upcoming Europa League game in the Showgrounds is ‘on hold’ for the moment, after UEFA announced that they would send a delegate to Sligo next week for a site visit before making a decision on the game.
In a statement released by Sligo today, they outlined a wide range of ground improvements, including the installation of over 1,000 additional seats, the extension of the pitch and the provision of media, conference, and other facilities to Uefa standard.
Rovers Chairman Michael Toolan says the club remained hopeful that the decision would be in favour of the Showgrounds. ‘I believe we have made a thorough, well costed submission to Uefa and now we await the decision.
“The timescale for carrying out the programme of works is very limited, with the draw on 15th July and the first game two weeks after that. We will be impressing on the Uefa delegate the critical importance of a speedy decision being made on our submission.’
