New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has earmarked the centre of defence as an area that needs addressing and plans to bulk up his backline with an English defender.

According to reports on Skysports.com Barcelona and Real Madrid are being linked with a move for David Luiz who only arrived in the January transfer window.

Should the Brazilian leave then the former Porto boss plans on buying English and has identified Gary Cahill and Scott Dann as the two main contenders to partner John Terry at the back.

Cahill has also been linked with Arsenal, Manchester City and Arsenal and is rated in the 20 million bracket. The former Aston Villa defender has emerged as a future England regular since his move to the Reebok and his knack for scoring goals makes him an attractive proposition.

Meanwhile 6ft 5” centre half Dann is rated as a future England International and looks set to leave Birmingham following their relegation. The 24 year old has been linked with Liverpool and Aston Villa and comes slightly cheaper than Cahill with a reported 10 million price tag.
