Former Liverpool and Newcastle midfielder Dietmar “Didi” Hamann is in line to become the new manager of Blue Square Bet Premier club Stockport County as businessman Anthony Evans prepares to take over the club.

Hamann spent time as player coach with the MK Dons last season before linking up with Sven Goran Eriksson at Leicester as first team coach.

Should Hamann take over at Edgley Park it will be his foray into club management.

Hamann spent 7 years at Anfield after arriving in an 8 million deal in 1999 and helped the club two FA cups, two league cups as well as the 2005 Champions league title.

Evans is in pole position to take over the club and could be in place as Chairman next week.

Sportsnewsireland.com will have live score updates on all GAA Championship matches over the summer.
