Limerick host Offaly at the Gaelic Grounds in the second round of the All Ireland Senior Football qualifiers this weekend. A tight game looks in the offing here and there is unlikely to be very much between these two teams. Neither has set the backdoor series alight in recent times and a win for either will be seen as progress.
The Treaty men were well beaten by Kerry in the Munster championship but still managed to put it up to the kingdom for long periods, and they managed to put three goals past Jack O’Connors side. Limerick have always been a dangerous team and were unlucky not to beat Kerry in last years championship. Despite their defeat last time out, Maurice Horan’s side will be hopeful that they can get their season back on the rails this weekend.
Offaly have had a mixed campaign to date. The Faithful County were hammered by Wexford in Leinster but bounced back to defeat Monaghan in the first round of the qualifiers last month. Having played more recently than Limerick, they will have match fitness on their side this weekend and that should not be discounted.
On balance,Limerick appear to be the slightly stronger side and provided that they have trained hard and given the qualifiers the attention it deserves then they can make home advantage count and progress from this difficult tie.
