Sweeney injured in fall at Newton Abbott

Jockey Nathan Sweeney was taking to Torbay hospital after suffering a suspected broken leg at Newton Abbot this afternoon.

Sweeney was aboard the Bob Buckler trained “Ethiopia” when he was unseated at the 11th face and is the injury is confirmed as break then he faces a lengthy spell out of action.

Fellow Jockey Daryl Jacob revealed: “I’ve had it confirmed by one of our valets and he’s definitely broken his leg.

“I was riding in the same race and he got unseated at the water when we were going quite a gallop.

“It’s a shame as he’d been going really well this year.”
