Cork City’s commitment to developing the best in local talent continued when the club announced that defender Kalen Spillane has signed a new two and a half year contract with the club.
The 19 year old, who broke into the first team last season, has since gone from strength to strength making sixteen league appearances for the club this season.
The central defender, whose new deals keeps with the Division one side until 2013, told CorkCityFC.net: “I was pleased get into the team at the start of the season, and have enjoyed playing regularly, so I am delighted to have signed a new contract. The season has been going quite well so far, so I am looking to push on now and continue improving as we aim to get promoted.”
City boss Tommy Dunne was also pleased with the news saying: “Kalen has done well and has established himself in the team this season, so we are pleased that he has committed himself to the club. I know he has enjoyed his season so far, and we have been happy with his progress, so this is a welcome development. He’s a young Cork lad and the future of the club is in young, talented local players like him. We are investing in Kalen, both in terms of coaching and in terms of this contract, so we want him to succeed.”
