Europe: St Pats & Glentoran into 2nd round

St Patricks Athletic secured their place in the next round of the Europa league qualifying with a 2-1 aggregate win over IBV at Richmond Park last night.

First half goals from Ian Daly and Derek Doyle sealed Pats passage into the next round where they face a daunting trip to Kazakhstan to face Karandy.

St Pats were joined in the 2nd round by Fulham drew 0-0 away to NSI to go through 3-0 on aggregate and TNS who knocked Northern Ireland’s Cliftonville out 2-1 on aggregate, Phil Baker scoring the decisive goal.

Glentoran reached the 2nd round in dramatic fashion, beat Macedonian side Renova 3-2 on penalties. Substitute Martin Murray was the hero of the day as his 71st minute goal gave Glentoran a 2-1 lead on the night and bought the sides level 3-3 on aggregate.

Finally there was heartbreak for Lee Trundle’s Neath as they lost 2-0 at home to Aalesund top bow out 6-1 aggregate losers.
