Donald claims Scottish open

Luke Donald’s impressive 2011 continued as he won the 54 hole Barclays Scottish Open to claim his third title of the year.

The World Number One, who won the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play in February then added The European Tour’s flagship BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club in May, closed with a flawless 63.

The 33 year olds nine under par round secured a 19 under par total at the spectacular Castle Stuart Golf Links to run out a four shot winner from Swede Fredrik Andersson Hed, who signed for a best of the week 62.

Paul McGinley, in his 500th European team event, Padraig Harrington and Shane Lowry on 14 under in a tie for 14th were the best of the Irish with Padraig Harrington finally finding some form coming up to the Open.

Graeme McDowell, who had impressed in the opening 36 holes failed to carry that form into the last round as he slumped to a two over 74, finishing 9 under and in a tie for 42nd place.
