UCD make the trip to Dundalk this Friday night in the Airtricity Premier League, kick off 7.45pm, in a game that they need to win in order to inject some life into their season.

Sitting third last in the table, ahead of Galway and Drogheda, UCD have struggled a lot this season managing only 18 points in 22 games. UCD come into this game with a patchy record in their most recent games.

Three defeats in their last five games, with only a win against Galway in that period doesn’t inspire much confidence in their chances of getting a result this Friday. Yet UCD could put it up to Dundalk with the news that La Liga giants Villarreal will be coming to play a pre season friendly against UCD this month.

That news could be the lift that UCD have been looking for and it could act a spur against Dundalk. However they will need to step up a lot on what they have shown in the last few weeks if they are to get a result in Oriel Park.

Their opponents this Friday, Dundalk, have a similar enough profile to the students in that they have struggled for a good portion of the season. They are ahead of UCD in the table and come into the game in the better form.

A 6-1 thrashing of bottom side Galway has been the highlight of their season in recent weeks and a 2-2 draw with St Pats away from home in their most recent game is pretty good form. They also beat UCD the last times the two sides met with a comfortable 2-0 away win back in May.

With home advantage and with the better current form Dundalk should be able to ease past UCD and continue their slow and steady climb up the league table.
