Ruby Walsh will miss the Galway Festival at the end of this month after a fall at Killarney left him with a crushed vertebra. It is the second year in succession that the former champion will be absent from Ballybrit.
Walsh is expected to be out of action until September, and is hoping to return in time for the Listowel meeting at the end of that month. This week’s setback is the latest in a series of injuries that have affected Walsh over the past 18 months. He broke his arm at Aintree last year, then just three months after he returning, he had multiple leg fractures following a fall at Down Royal.
“He has crushed a vertebra in his neck and has also torn a ligament off a vertebra,” his sister and agent Jennifer revealed afterwards. “He will be out of action until Listowel Festival time.”
