New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas looks set to make his first purchase after the Blues agreed a fee with Belgian champions Genk for goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
The 19-year-old stopper made 40 appearances last season and although the fee is yet to be revealed, Genk director Dirk Degraen said his club had little option but to accept it:
“We received an enormous offer that gave us no choice but to let him leave,” he said. “I have mixed feelings about this transfer – (we) wanted Thibaut to stay a bit longer.”
The young keeper said recently: “Chelsea see me as the successor to Petr Cech. It won’t happen in one or two years, but in three, four or five years.
I can therefore work on my development in peace.”
