A young Kildare footballer has been dropped from the county senior panel, following an alleged breach of discipline. The player attended the recent Oxegen music festival and has lost his place in the squad as a result.
Sean Hurley, who made a substitute’s appearance in the Leinster semi-final against Dublin went to the festival in Punchestown after the qualifier win over Laois. Team management had outlawed any such trips, with the team due to play Meath in the next round of the qualifiers the following weekend.
Last week Hurley was informed that he would not be part of the squad for the match in Navan against the Royal county. He did not travel with the panel and it is not yet known if he will be part of Kildare’s plans for the remainder of the season.
Hurley(19) and was a member of the minor team that beat Dublin in the Leinster championship last season. He is considered one of the brightest young prospects in the county. The decision to drop the player underlines just how seriously the present Kildare management take discipline within the squad.
