Cavan’s Lisa Maguire leads the way at the end of day two of the of the European Women’s Individual Amateur Championship at the Noordwijkse Golf Club in Holland.
The 16-year-old Slieve Russell golfer recorded the best round of the tournament so far – 68 – and is three under par at the half way stage. 68 – the lowest round of the tournament so far – and at three-under is the only player in the field to have broken par.
Her immediate thoughts after Thursday’s round? : ‘’I opened the championship with a 73′ ; ‘the difference between day 1 and 2? I think today the pin positions were a little bit easier. Besides that, I was able to hit my irons pretty close and I putted well.’
Leading the chasing pack is French champion Perrine Delacour (69 today) and the Dane, Charlotte Kring Lorentzen (70), both on level par. Delacour, who defeated Lisa Maguire in the Irish Girls championship at Knightsbrook earlier in the year, hit a 77 on day 1 but Maguire will be taking nothing for granted
in the days ahead though she has a three stroke lead.
Twin sister, Leona, is four-over after Thursday’s 75 and typing for sixth whilst Royal Portrush’s University of Alabama student , Stephanie Meadow is but a stroke further (71) on Thursday .
The field of 144 will be reduced to the top 60 after Friday’s third round in advance of the fourth and final round on Saturday.
