Arsenal will have to fork out £18 million if they want to bring their top summer target Phil Jagielka to the Emirates from current club Everton.
The Toffees have already rejected a bid of £12million for the centre-back and are digging their heels in as they attempt to get the best possible price on the defender. Jagielka only signed a new contract in March and the Goodison Park side will expect a hefty compensation fee if they are to part with the player.
Jagielka(28) was a prominent member of the Everton team which reached the FA Cup final in 2009 but missed the final after rupturing his cruciate ligament. Last season he made 33 appearances and was instrumental in his side’s late charge up the table.
Everton manager David Moyes had insisted that defender Joleon Lescott would not leave the club in the summer of 2009, before he was eventually sold to Manchester City for £22m, and a similar bid will be required from Arsenal to claim Jagielka.
