The Willie Mullins trained Blazing Tempo, ridden by Paul Townend, has won the tote.com Galway Plate.

The plate victory marks a first win for Townend in the race, just days after his return to the saddle following the facture to his collarbone at Punchestown in May, and ends trainer Willie Mullins’ wait to win this valuable handicap chase.

The early pace was set by Back Of the Pack, last year’s winner Finger on the Pulse, Archie Boy and Schindler’s Gold.

Head of the Posse and Majestic Concorde were early casualties while the well-fancied Bahrain Storm also fell as the drama began to unfold.

Lucky Wish will have also feeling somewhat downbeat this evening after falling at the last fence for the second year in succession.

Townend saw his chance and took it, running home a length and a quarter from the 13-2 shot Wise Old Owl with Aigle D’Or third and Hampshire Express fourth.

Sportsnewsireland.com will have live score updates on all GAA Championship matches over the summer.
