Manchester City’s €45m man Sergio Aguero could make his debut at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday as Roberto Mancini included a mysterious ‘To Be Named ‘striker in his squad for the Dublin Super Cup.
Aguero completed his €170,000-a-week move from Athletico Madrid today and though he has been given the weekend to arrange his affairs in Spain reports suggest that Maradona’s son-in-law may join up with the squad as soon as Friday.
The man Aguero has been tipped to replace Carlos Tevez has not yet rejoined his City team mates as he remains on extended leave for the Copa America.
It appears increasingly unlikely that Tevez will return to the side as it has emerged that City may consider a cut-price €30m bid from Inter Milan if the Italian giants agree to waive the €13m outstanding on Mario Ballotelli.
Aguero’s participation would be a boost for the FAI organised tournament as it has come under criticism from both fans and players in recent days.
Players representing the League of Ireland XI expressed their anger at a performance fee of just €650 before tax and being told that showers would not be made available to them following their games as they had to make room for the other teams.
Fans who purchased tickets early feel hard done by as the FAI have responded to lack of interest by cutting ticket prices by almost half in some areas of the ground.
