Joseph O’Brien will ride for the Queen in next month’s Ebor handicap at York. The Irish jockey will partner third favourite Tactician for the monarch in the big race of the festival.

The horse is currently a 12/1 shot and is well fancied by connections. O’Brien has really come of age as a rider this season, gaining his first Classic victory aboard Roderic O’Connor in the Irish 2000 Guineas. He also partnered St Nicholas Abbey in the King George Stakes at Ascot.

Confirming the booking, Tactician’s trainer Michael Bell said: “Joseph is the best 3lb claimer in Britain and Ireland, and he rides extremely well. I have informed the queen that he will ride Tactician, and she is delighted.”
