New Zealand prop John Afoa, who is set to join Ulster after the World Cup, could be ruled out of his teams upcoming Tri Nations game against Australia with a fractured cheekbone.
The forward sustained the injury during his sides comfortable 40-7 defeat of South Africa last Saturday when he replaced Ben Franks in the second half of the game. Although initial impressions were that Afoa would be available for selection for Saturday All Blacks coach Graham Henry now concedes that time is running out for Afoa to be fit.
“The reports are not as good as I thought they were going to be. He doesn’t look as positive as we thought it was last night,” said Henry.
However there was some good news for the World Cup favourites as both Sonny Bill Williams and Ma’a Nonu who picked up injury knocks against South Africa are expected to be fit for the clash against the Wallabies.
