Liverpool are understood to be preparing a bid for Stoke centre-back Ryan Shawcross as Kenny Dalglish continues to rebuild his side ahead of the new season.

According to caughtoffside.com the 23 year old defender is seen as one of the last pieces remaining in the Anfield sides jigsaw. Shawcross has ruled out playing international football for Wales and is hoping that a move to a big club will improve his prospects of playing for England.

Shawcross has been a vital player in the Stoke side that has significantly each season since they arrived in the Premier League in 2008. They achieved a top half finish and made the final of the FA Cup last season.

Although Liverpool have a number of centre-halves in their squad, Dalglish is not happy with the players he has available. Daniel Agger has been hit by a number of injuries and Martin Skrtel has missed all of pre-season with a calf problem.
