Scottish side Hearts have moved swiftly to replace Jim Jefferies with the appointment of former Sporting Lisbon coach Paulo Sergio as their new manager.

Former Kilmarnock boss Jefferies was only sacked yesterday however shortly after his dismissal reports began to emerge that 43-year-old Portuguese Sergio was being lined up to take over at Tynecastle.

Sergio, who was played as a striker for Pacos de Ferreira, Vitoria Setubal and Olhanense in a 17 year career before stepping into management lasted only 6 months with his most recent club Sporting Lisbon failing to make an impact in the Portuguese super league.

However that hasn’t prevented Vladimir Romanov from appointing Sergio as his 10th manager since taking over.

Meanwhile former right back Jefferies has refused the club’s offer to become their director of football and instead will server all links with the club he represented as a player and manager for almost 20 years.

Hearts manager’s since Vladimir Romanov took over:

John Robertson
George Burley
Graham Rix
Valdas Ivanauskas
Anatoliy Korobochka
Stephen Frail
Csaba Laszlo
Jim Jefferies
Paulo Sergio Bento Brito
