Ipswich look set to beat Leeds United to the signing of Blackburn midfielder Keith Andrews.

Reports over the weekend had indicated that the Republic of Ireland international was set for Elland Road however those reports now seem wide of the mark with Paul Jewell set to tie up a season long loan move for the 30 year old in the next couple of days.

Andrews has reportedly already been at Portman Road to talk to Jewell with the clubs currently negotiating the terms of the deal.

The Dubliner could be signed in time to make his debut in the season opener against Bristol City for on Saturday.

Despite being contracted to Blackburn till 2013 Andrews is not in Steve Kean’s plans for this season. The former MK Dons player only made 6 appearances last season as injury curtailed him however he did come back at the end of the season to feature for Blackburn and Ireland.
