Sunderland midfielder Steed Malbranque looks set to leave the North East of England and return to France after Steve Bruce admitted that the player didn’t feature in his plans.
The 31 year old now looks set for a move to St Etienne, with reports emerging that the player has already had a medical with the Ligue one side.
Malbranque began his career with St Etienne’s local rivals Lyon and should the reports of a move to France prove correct it would end a ten year stay in England that has taken in spells with Fulham and Tottenham not to mention Sunderland, who he joined 3 seasons ago.
Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, Bruce confirmed that the player was on the move without revealing his destination “Of course, Steed has done remarkably well for the club over the last two or three years, but it’s maybe time that he moves on and we wish him well”
“I think it’s in advanced talks so maybe there’ll be something to report there soon. We’ve decided to say okay, which is inevitable with the amount of people we’ve brought in and the balance of the squad.”
