Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is on the trail of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze, as the club begin to have doubts about their prospects of landing Wesley Sneijder.
Ferguson is desperate to land a replacement for Paul Scholes before the start of the new season and has narrowed his quest down to these two players. United had been linked with a number of others such as Samir Nasri and Luka Modric, but it appears as if Ferguson has settled on his own targets.
With the Sneijder deal stalling, the Red Devils boss is now turning his attentions to Gotze.
Gotze’s performances for Dortmund have been impressive and a number of clubs from around Europe have been monitoring the 19-year-old attacking midfielder including Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Last season the German international became a regular in the Borussia Dortmund first team and made 41 appearances in all competitions and scored eight goals, helping Dortmund claim the Bundesliga championship.
