Liverpool have agreed a fee with Newcastle for Jose Enrique and the Spanish defender has travelled to Merseyside to finalise the deal.
The fee for the highly rated 25 year old is thought to be in the region of £6million, and his signing will end Kenny Dalglish’s search for a left back.
Enrique is entering the final year of his contract at St James’ Park and had made it clear he did not want to extend the deal.
A statement on www.Liverpoolfc.tv, the club’s official website said: “Liverpool FC confirmed today that they had agreed a fee with Newcastle United for the transfer of Jose Enrique. The club have now been given permission to discuss personal terms with the player, who will travel to Liverpool to undergo a medical.”
Enrique has emerged as a key component in the Newcastle defence since joined the magpies 2007. The former Spanish U21 international, who failed to make the breakthrough at his native Valencia, previously played for Villarreal and Celta Viga (loan).
