Sligo will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they face UCD on Saturday evening (7.45 kick off).
Since beating Galway united 8-0 last month, the bit ‘o’red have drawn 2 and lost one to slip from top spot down to third.
Speaking ahead of the game Rovers boss Paul Cook was keen to put last week’s defeat to Bohemians behind him and move forward, speaking to sligorovers.com, the club’s official website, the former Southport manager said “It was a very disappointing night against Bohemians and time is running out for us. It is a big test of our squad with just 10 matches left to play. We didn’t play well and Bohs punished us.
I think there are some twists and turns to come in the league but unless we start winning games it will not matter. We have slipped back dropping these points but we had a few poor results earlier this season and we responded. That is something we need to do again. UCD beat us earlier in the season and we know it will not be easy.”
Cook will be boosted by the return of defenders Alan Keane and Danny Ventre to the team. Keane has recovered from a thigh injury which kept him out of recent games against Poltava, Dundalk and Bohemians. Ventre returns from suspension after he received a red card in Oriel Park in the recent game against Dundalk however John Russell misses the clash with The Students through suspension.
Martin Russell meanwhile will be without Robbie Creevy(back) and Ciaran Nangle(shins) for the crucial clash as he looks to bounce back from last week’s second half horror show against Shamrock Rovers.
Speaking to www.ucdsoccer.com ahead of the game Russell was wary of the threat a wounded Sligo Rovers posed to his side “Sligo are going to come at us with everything that they have as they try to win the league, our boys know that it is going to be a massive test. We are constantly asking our young squad to push on and this game will provide a real test. We going to be looking to put our best foot forward from the off and we feel if we play well we can give them a good game.”
