Robbie Keane continued his run of scoring on his début by marking his first game for LA Galaxy with a goal after 21 minutes before celebrating with his trademark cartwheel.
Keane rounded the San Jose Earhquakes goalkeeper after a David Beckham free kick was allowed to bounce behind the defence to add Galaxy to the list of Coventry, Wolves and West Ham that Keane has found the net for in his opening game.
The Dubliner was substituted after 71 minutes and left the pitch to a standing ovation from the 27,000 strong crowd.
The 31 year old said: “It couldn’t have gone better for me. When you come to a new team, it’s always good to get the first goal.”
Beckham praised Keane’s striker’s instincts saying “He’s a player who knows where to run, and if you’re on the same wavelength as him, you’ve got a real good chance.”
Manager Bruce Arena felt that age was starting to show on the Tallaght man’s performance.
“When he was younger, he used to elevate a little more,” he joked when describing the celebratory cartwheel.
