Tomas O’Leary and Luke Fitzgerald have been left out of Ireland’s 30 man sqaud for the Rugby World Cup after the sqaud was announced this afternoon by Declan Kidney.
Conor Murrary was the surprise name to appear in the final 30 along with Geordon Murphy who comes in for the luckless Felix Jones who suffered an ankle injury against France on Saturday. Leinster man Fergus McFadden has also been rewared for an excellent pre season with a place in the squad at the expense of team mate Luke Fitzgerald.
The big shock of Declan Kidneys World Cup squad announcement this afternoon was the absence of Luke FItzgerald and Tomas O’Leary.
It had been thought Fitzgerald may miss out but after a solid performance on Saturday many people thought Kidney would include the Heineken cup winner. Fergus McFadden and Donnacha Ryan were the surprise inclusions in the 30 man squad.
Fifteen players will be travelling to the Rugby World Cup for the first time including the recently capped Fergus McFadden and Conor Murray. Nine of the forwards forwards will be making their first appearance at a Rugby World Cup Squad while six of the backs will make their tournament debut.
Ireland play their final Guinness Summer Series game against England on Saturday in Aviva Stadium and fly out to New Zealand the following Tuesday.
