James McCarthy signs long term deal

Wigan Athletic have confirmed that Republic of Ireland striker James McCarthy has signed a new long-term contract with the Premiership side.

The club also said that Ben Watson and Emmerson Boyce have also signed long-term deals with them.

McCarthy has agreed a new five year contract with the side, with fellow midfielder Ben Watson signing a three-year deal.

Defender Boyce, who is closing on the club’s record tally of Premier League appearances, has signed for two years.

McCarthy had been chased by a number of bigger clubs,including Liverpool, but has opted to remain with Wigan.
