Conor Niland has qualified for the second round of the US Open after a first round victory in the mens singles qualifiers at Flushing Meadows.
Niland beat Pavol Cervenak (SVK) in the first round yesterday by two sets to nil ,6-1 6-4. In the next round he will meetTsung-Hua Yang (TPE) who has a ranking of 223. A win in the second round would see Niland one step away from a place in the mens singles main draw.
Ireland’s Louk Sorensen is also playing his first US Open. He will face Arnau Brugues-Davi (ESP) in the mens singles qualifiers first round today (fourth match after an 11am start). Sorensen reached the second round of the mens singles at the San Sebastian Challenger last week in Spain.
