Niland & Sorenson qualify for US open

Conor Niland and Louk Sorenson created history on Friday when they became the first Irish tennis players to qualify for the mens singles main draw of the US Open.

Niland was the first member of the duo to achieve the historic milestone when he defeated Matwe Middelkoop(NED) 2-6 6-1 6-4 to earn a place in the main draw.

Louk Sorensen meanwhile joined his fellow country in the main draw as he made a mockery of this 614th place world rankings beating Gastao Elias (POR) in their delayed clash before dispatching world number 202 player Martin Fischer of Austria in straight sets 7-6 (7/2) 6-1.
