Manchester City defender Dedryck Boyata has secured a season long loan at Bolton. The move could pave the way for Gary Cahill’s potential move to Arsenal.
The 20 year old Belgium international becomes Owen Coyle’s sixth signing of the season. Boyata has made 22 appearances for City and was part of their successful FA Cup winning team last season. He moved to England in 2007 and made his first team appearance in 2010 against Middlesbrough in a FA Cup tie.
Speaking on the deal, Owen Coyle expressed his inevitable delight.
“I am delighted that we have completed the loan deal for Dedryck because there was interest from a number of other clubs in taking him on loan.
“To bring in a player of Dedryck’s age and quality is something, as we have shown before, that we like to do.
“He is a tremendous addition to the squad and his versatility means that he can operate at centre-half and full-back. He has got pace and power and is a flexible and dynamic player.”
The player himself told Bolton’s official website that he was looking forward to the challenge and the successful loan spells of Jack Wilshere and Daniel Sturridge in recent years persuaded him to move to the Reebok for the season.
The 6ft 2in central defender could be a replacement for Gary Cahill. The highly rated centre back has been heavily linked with Arsenal and Bolton turned down a bid for Cahill on Friday morning from Arsenal.
