Spurs 1: 5 Man City
And that’s it. Edin Dzeko comes away with four, Sergio Aguero joins him on the scoresheet too. Younes Kaboul pulled one back for Spurs in what was pretty much one-way traffic throughout. Superb display from the visitors. 5-1 City
90+3 Quality, quality finish. He goes for a one-two with Barry and just unleashes an unstoppable effort into the back of the net. Friedel had no chance. Superb strike to cap off a quite brilliant performance from the Bosnian.
90+3 GOAL CITY!!!
90+2 There’s another minute to go and Spurs are all but deflated. It’s obviously been City’s day and that’s mainly because their finishing in the final third has been superb
. .90+1 Defoe goes for an overhead kick from the resulting corner but Phil Dowd stops play for a push in the area.
90mins Dawson picks out Corluka with a glorious pass down the right, it’s put out for a corner.
89mins City appear quite happy to continue a bit of keep-ball, giving Spurs no chance to counter and really slowing down the tempo of this game.
88mins Play continues with a drop ball back to Friedel.
87mins Play has been stopped for a while as Richards gets some treatment and goes off the field.
86mins City are just seeing out these final minutes.
85mins City are increasing their possession tally with a bit of pass and move, Dawson does excellently well to nick it off them in the centre of the park, he goes forward and receives the ball again and opts for an outside of the boot strike on goal. Well wide unfortunately for the White Hart Lane faithful. Good pressure though.
84mins It’s a bit of a bad start to this season for Harry’s men and if VDV’s hamstring is a bad one, they’re going to have to really step up their game if they are to challenge for Champs League. However it’s still too early to tell and their competition hasn’t exactly been the easiest so far.
83minsAnd he could’ve added to his tally but his effort is saved well by Friedel who gets down well.
82mins Just looking over Dzeko’s finishes again, it’s the perfect hat-trick with one with the left, right and head. He’s definitely one to watch this season
80mins Assou-Ekotto sets Bale off on a run with a great ball down the left, there’s no-one in the box though so the Welshman cuts on to his right and goes for goal. However his effort lacks pace and Hart gathers.
80mins Silva makes a hash of a strike on goal, manages to spoon it over the bar rather than troubling Friedel. Great build-up play as well, deserved a better, more composed finish.
79mins City are settling down the play again, as Spurs continue to try and claw something out of this game.
Just to confirm – when Rafael Van der Vaart went off, Huddlestone replaced him.
77mins Richards piles into the advertising hoardings under an Assou-Ekotto challenge, that’s going to leave a mark…and the first physical challenge from spurs!
76mins It’s looking very comfortable for City as we get into the final 15, Spurs have troubled them a couple of times though. It’s been a better half for them despite the scoreline.
Aguero comes off for Savic – Savic was actually on the pitch before Aguero walked off.
74mins Defoe wins his side a free-kick right on the edge of the area down the right channel. Great chance this to test City’s defence again.
73mins Van der Vaart goes straight down the tunnel after pulling his hamstring, big blow for Spurs if that’s the case. In his frustration he kicks out as he goes down the tunnel.
72mins Livermore nearly gets his side into trouble as he fails to clear the ball, luckily for him City can’t capitalise on the error.
71mins Defoe’s changed Spurs’ approach to this game. Everytime the forward gets it he’s looking to have a crack on goal and another powerful effort tests Hart. Good strike from the Englishman
City have a free-kick from 30 yards out which Nasri and Toure stand over. It’s struck by the Ivorian from Nasri’s lay-off but he drags the effort well wide and fails to trouble Friedel.
69mins Silky skills from Bale to evade City challenges, it’s been a quite day for him but hopefully for the home fans that Kaboul goal will galvanize them.
68mins Younes Kaboul scores from the resulting corner. Rafael Van der Vaart found him brilliantly and the defender planted a bullet header past Hart. Great finish – 4-1!
68 GOAL SPURS!!!
67mins A lot better from Spurs, Defoe strikes a powerful effort which Hart palms away for a corner.
66mins And there is the change. Modric gets a mixed reception as he comes off for Jake Livermore. Unlike Man Utd, Bluffer Redknapp won’t play good youngsters like Jake ahead of wastrels like Modric. He should stick the croation on his barrow and straight round to chelsea shouting ”buy him buy him”
65mins Modric is due to come off for Livermore.
64mins On the back of Aguero’s ambitious effort, City ring the changes.
63mins City are more than comfortable in this game, they’re not stopping at four either it seems…
62mins It’s a bit desperate for Spurs now which is unfortunate because they started off really brightly. Their midfield have been quite anonymous however.
61mins Pretty sure Tevez will struggle to force his way back into this side. Will make for an interesting couple of days in the transfer market.
60mins Aguero’s change of pace leaves Dawson trailing in his path as the striker drills the ball past Friedel into the roof of the net. The passing move up to that point had Spurs all over the place. Great finish from the wee man.
60 GOAL CITY!!!
59 minsCity’s passing is carving Spurs apart!
58mins Carlos Tevez looks longingly from the stands, can he fit into this side anymore? With the form Dzeko is in, he’s not shifting anywhere and Aguero’s movement has been instrumental today.
57mins VDV shows his frusatration with a late challenge, it’s a soft one to be honest but enough for Dowd to stop play. Im trapped in a parallell world, Harry Redknapp doing his twitchy face and the captain mainwaring of refs giving it loads..
56mins If you’ve got Dzeko in your dream teams – expect a hefty points haul because he isn’t showing any signs of that being his last goal. Spurs are struggling to cope with his movement.
55mins It’s Edin Dzeko’s day! First hat-trick for City, he couldn’t miss either. Great ball from Toure who squares it across to the Bosnian, he sticks out a foot and smashes it home. Too easy for City there – they practically walked through Spurs’ defence.
55mins GOAL CITY!!!
54mins Clichy wins a corner from Corluka who deflects the Frenchman’s cross.
53mins Dzeko tries to direct a header to Friedel’s far-post, good connection but didn’t quite get the angle right and the Bosnian heads wide.
53mins I’m giving these players the kiss of death, Lennon is coming off for Defoe. Lennon looks to be limping slightly too following a tricky run earlier in this half and god love him, its hard having to run ten yards on 70 grand a week
49mins City win the first corner of this half, Nasri and Silva combine again but to very little affect this time. Spurs clear well.
48mins City’s defence are playing high up the pitch – it might be good for Defoe to exploit if he manages to get on.
47mins Crouch is straight into the action, unfortunately he chests the ball down in the box from a Bale cross and can’t do much else with it as City clear the danger.
That’s it for the half. City have dominated possession and got their rewards through a Edin Dzeko brace after superb assists from new boy Nasri. Spurs have had plenty of chances themselves with Bale’s volley at the far-post the best for the hosts. It’s been entertaining so far but if Spurs are to get anything from this, they need to stop giving City time on the ball. My Fleet Street colleagues may love him but Redknapp can’t bluff his way out of this. Young Harry Kane on thursday at least showed some nuns around the box but even i at 41 would do better than the Spurs forwards today.
45+3 The resulting corner comes to nothing as Hart gratefully collects.
45+3 Bale escapes his marker to pile forward, he goes for a grass-cutter and his effort gets a deflection for a corner. Was slightly ambitious from the Welshman.
45+2 Aguero shoves Modric off the ball and forces a corner. That was like a couple of The Borrowers on the ball there…
Silva has a pop this time, it’s like shooting practice at the moment. His effort goes wide of the mark. The away side are enjoying themselves. I said it in my pre match preview, it is a joke that Redknapp is mooted as Capello’s replacement. Hasnt a clue and Shamrock Rovers won’t be too worried based on this.
45mins Dzeko goes for his hat-trick and without a challenge smashes it towards goal, Friedel gets a strong hand behind it to guide it away from goal.
44mins There’s no challenging from Spurs at the moment when City are on the ball. They need to press more and force the play because the hosts are just killing them with their possession.
Not a bad start for Nasri either on his Man City debut, two assists. Think Dzeko will thrive on that kind of service from the Frenchman this season.
42mins Spurs are stunned, they need to retain possession better if they are going to get back into this game.
It’s that man Dzeko again, he rises above Kaboul to head Nasri’s ball back across goal leaving Friedel stranded. Superb header from the £27 million forward.
41mins GOAL CITY!!!
40mins Spurs have reacted well to that City opener, could’ve twice equalised.
39mins Bale puts it on a plate for Crouch who dives to connect with the header at the far stick and angles it just wide of Hart’s post. That would’ve been a great goal!
39mins Van der Vaart strikes it first-time in the box, well blocked from the City defence.
38mins Spurs need to use Modric more, he’s drawing out two City players everytime he gets the ball.
Silva gives away a free-kick for a handball after Aguero showed tidy feet on the ball for another City attack.
36mins Kranjcar’s looking a bit groggy on his feet, one for the Spurs bench to deal with.
Possession-wise City probably deserve to be ahead, Spurs have been resolute in defence but let their concentration slip as Dzeko found the yard of space he needed. Will be interesting to see how Redknapp’s men react to that opener.
34mins Spurs fail to cope with City’s give and go’s. It comes to Nasri on the left wing who whips in a cross and Edin Dzeko has the simplest of tasks to finish with a neat volley past Friedel.
City are getting two men on Modric everytime he gets the ball, Zabaleta’s watching the Croatian playmaker’s every move.
PENALTY APPEAL – SPURS. Lescott’s clearance hit Kompany on the arm – would have been harsh if awarded but Lescott is an accident waiting to happen for City.
32mins CLOSE – CITY. Barry smashed effort from edge of the box that couldn’t quite curl on target in time, flashed a foot wide.
31mins City’s Silva chipped pass into overlappting Clichy, opted to head back across goal and Dawson there to clear.
30mins YELLOW CARD – SPURS. Van der Vaart for foul on Zabeleta.Nice bit of getting your own back there with the city player making the most of it. wouldn’t have happened with Bobby McDonald
26mins Chance for Spurs asKranjcar fed in Lennon, right side, we had played queuing up at the near post, Crouch got slightlest touch and ball fell to Bale, far post, tight angle, hit side-netting.
23mins Toure goes into the book fron whinging as does Zabeleta for kicking Gareth Bale
22min SAVE – HART. Van der Vaart free-kick, left side, 25 yards out, up over the wall, Hart flew to his right to palm away. Corner cleared.
City on top at this stage with Spurs looking a bit ragged
19min Friedel up well to gather Clichy’s cross.
17 mins SAVE – FRIEDEL. World-class save. Silva on the run from central to the left, struck low shot back to far post, Friedel down to fingertip wide. Could prove to be redknapps best buy of the season after gomez disasters last season
14 mins Great covering tackle from Corluka as Nasri tried to slide in Aguero.
13min DZEKO goes close. Possible foul on Modric centrally by Zabaletta, play continued, quick passing between Aguero, Silva set up Dzeko for strike at goal, right side, sliced well wide.
11min Assou-Ekotto yellow card
10minAssou-Ekotto switched play left to right for Lennon, he slid into van der Vaart, right side of box, quick turn and lashed shot to near post, Hart down well to his left to turn away.
6min SAVE – FRIEDEL. Silva unleashed a fierce drive from 25 yards that Friedel beat away, ball fell Aguero whose effort was blocked, then Nasri scuffed wide.
4min Dzeko drags one wide for City
3min Friedel denys Nasri on his debut
2min Modric sets up Krancier for first attempt
Premier League football returns to the lane as we are away
