Fahey to miss Euro 2012 qualifiers

The FAI has confirmed that Birmingham midfielder Keith Fahey will miss next week’s crucial Euro 2012 qualifiers against Slovakia and Russia.

Fahey has pulled out with a groin injury which he suffered during the week. The Birmingham midfielder was in their squad for the 2-2 draw with Watford on Sunday afternoon but wasn’t fit enough to make an appearance and has now confirmed he will miss Friday’s game with Slovakia in Dublin.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given should be fit for the two games despite straining his back during Villa’s draw with Wolves. The FAI released a statement confirming that the former Newcastle keeper in undergoing treatment in Birmingham and will join up with the squad on Tuesday.

The injury to Keith Fahey comes after the news that Darron Gibson is likely to miss the games following injuring his ankle in training last week.
