FAI investigate Sheriff YC player eligibility

Sheriff YC’s future participation in the FAI cup has come under scrutiny after the Domestic committee of the FAI revealed they were investigating claims that the Dublin side had fielded an ineligible player in their stunning 3-2 over Shelbourne.

The AUL side came from 2-0 down to stun the Division one side and set up a quarter final tie with Limerick FC.

However in a statement released by the FAI, it was revealed that they domestic committee had written to the club for an explanation.

The statement released read “The Domestic Committee of the Football Association of Ireland was today made aware of a possible player eligibility issue in relation to Sheriff YC following their recent FAI Ford Cup match against Shelbourne FC on August 26. The Domestic Committee has written today to Sheriff YC, the Athletic Union League and the Competition Manager requesting their attendance at a meeting on Friday September 2, 2011”
