Sligo ease past Monaghan

Sligo Rovers have set up a quarter-final showdown against Shamrock Rovers or UCD after running out comfortable 4-0 winners away to Monaghan United in their FAI Ford Cup Fourth Round Replay

Goals in each half from Aaron Greene alongside efforts from centre half Gavin Peers and Alan Kirby Sligo Rovers continue their defence of the FAI Ford Cup.

Peers opened the scoring on 23 minutes when he headed home N’Do in-swinging corner and it was 2-0 just six minutes later Greene getting his first of the evening finishing past Gabriel Save after being set up by Kirby following more good work by N’Do.

Kirby then turned goal scorer as he finished off another move involving N’Do to put Paul Cook’s side 3-0 up with 51 minutes gone.

Greene got his second and Sligo’s fourth a minute before the end when he got on the end of Matthew Blinkhorn’s pass to fire the ball up and seal an impressive win.
